Master HumbleShot

A complete guide to capturing, editing, and exporting your screen.

1. Taking a Screenshot

  • Press Alt + Z (default) to freeze your screen.
  • Click and drag to select an area.
  • Changed your mind? Click anywhere outside your selection to start a new box, or simply drag the edges/corners of your existing box to resize it perfectly.
  • Right-click anywhere, or press Esc, to cancel and exit entirely.

2. The Tool Palette

Once you select an area, your tool palette appears. Select a tool to begin drawing:

  • Pen: Freehand drawing.
  • Line & Arrow: Point-to-point indicators.
  • Rectangle: Box outlines.
  • Highlighter: Semi-transparent marker perfect for text.
  • Text: Click anywhere on the screen to type. Press Enter to lock it in.

3. Colors & Sizes

  • Change Color: Click the Colr button to open the palette and pick any custom color.
  • Change Size: Scroll your Mouse Wheel up or down at any time! Watch the dimension indicator in the top-left corner to see your exact brush size in pixels.

4. Pro-Tips & Shortcuts

  • Ortho-Snapping: Hold Shift while drawing a Line or Arrow to force it into a perfectly straight horizontal or vertical line. Hold Shift with the Rectangle tool to draw a perfect square.
  • Undo / Redo: Made a mistake? Press Ctrl + Z to undo your last stroke. Press Ctrl + Y to redo it.
  • Quick Export: Press Ctrl + C to instantly copy the image to your clipboard, or Ctrl + S to save it as a PNG.

5. App Settings

Look for the HumbleShot icon in your Windows System Tray (bottom right of your screen). Right-click it and select Settings. Here you can:

  • Change your capture hotkey from Alt+Z to anything you want.
  • Adjust the "Screen Edge Margin". This prevents the drawing UI from going off-screen if you take a screenshot too close to the edge of your monitor.
